Crochet Cupcakes

Yesterday I spent my evening watching Valkyrie while stitching my cupcake creations together. It’s a weird combination but time was wasting away and the deadline to finish my project was only one sleep away. The movie was okay. My cupcakes on the other hand, turned out pretty fabulous.

It’s a little bit hard for me to part with these lovely looking desserts. I literally put my blood on one of the cupcakes. My hands were so dry and chapped one of my fingers started bleeding while I was sewing the flowers on the tops. Also it’s heartbreaking to watch my two girls look at the cupcakes with adoration and wonder in their eyes - I know they are just dying to keep them and I want to cave and just add it to their collection of tea party toys. I hope their big cousin likes this one of a kind gift as much as I enjoyed making it.

I tried to find a bakery box at Michael's but they only had sampler boxes that fit 4 cupcakes rather than 6. I ended up putting them in a photo memory box.

I crocheted each cupcake with worsted weight acrylic yarn. The pattern was from Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet by Ana Paula Rimoli. The pattern was easy to follow but you do need to have some basic crochet knowledge. I plan on changing the pattern a tiny bit because I wasn’t completely in love with the final cupcake shape.

My favourite cupcakes are the ones sprinkled with the “sugar” flowers. They were the most work so I only made two. The rest are more simply decorated with french knot sprinkles but they still look delicious.

Completely satisfying (for the crafter) yet calorie and guilt free dessert!

Not sure what I’m going to work on next. Maybe I should work on the Pay it Forward 2011 project or perhaps start another Amigurumi adventure.
