Gift Number 1: Monogrammed Tissue Tote
Don’t you hate it when you need a tissue and you just can’t find one; even though you know you’ve got a package of them somewhere in the black hole you call a purse or diaper bag? When I first came across this handy hankie holder sewing project, I knew I had to make one! I hate digging around my bag for stuff. You can never find anything when you need it, especially kid stuff.
Fret no more because this cute felt tote is perfect for carrying extra tissue. Just fold up some loose tissue and stuff it right into the tote. It’s the perfect size for your purse or diaper bag. If you prefer, you can use a travel size Kleenex package in the tote.
My tissue holder is made with crafting felt. I cut my project a tiny bit larger than suggested in the original instructions. Instead of hand sewing the seams with a running stitch, I decided to machine sew the tote for durability.
I hand cut the fuchsia felt heart. This was actually the most challenging part of the project as my scissors were big, bulky AND dull. As you can see, I monogrammed the heart with the letter “R” for my friend Renee, the first recipient of the Pay it Forward 2011 project. The single initial was embroidered onto the heart with a simple back stitch. I chose to embellish my little heart with two “lazy daisy” flowers.
