How to start your own self-hosted wordpress blog
Have you ever wondered why some blogs have their own self contained domain name whereas others have a super long url with WordPress or Blogspot in it? Do you wish you had more control over your blog, especially the design elements? Wonder and wish no longer and consider a self-hosted WordPress Blog!
Starting a self-hosted WordPress blog is really super easy. Seriously, no joke. WordPress makes self-hosted blogging accessible to everyone - beginners and advanced users alike.
Step One: Find a web host
Web hosting is relatively inexpensive. Most web hosts will throw in a domain name for free when you purchase hosting. There are thousands of hosting companies available. To keep things simple, I chose Blue Host, one of the companies recommended by WordPress to host my blog. Blue Host makes the installation as easy as 1 click!
Step Two: Download and Install WordPress
Installing WordPress for domains hosted by Blue Host
Start by logging in to your Blue Host/ cpanel account (www.yourdomain.com/cpanel). Scroll down to the software section and click on the WordPress logo. Follow the installation instructions.
If you are hosting with another company, download WordPress here and then follow the installation instructions found here.
Step Three: Log in to your WordPress Account
Log in to your WordPress Account and start familiarizing yourself with the software. Check out the amazing support available at WordPress.org:
WordPress Codex (Basically the WordPress Bible)
WordPress Lessons - Awesome resource including information on blog design.
That’s it. Three simple steps to starting a self-hosted blog. Now go to it and start your own blog.
