Guess what? I’ve got a new project on the table. On the deck actually and it’s something I’ve been thinking about doing for awhile…
We inherited a set of cane patio furniture from my sometimes nomadic younger sibling. That was two years ago. The set is pretty battered and now consists of two pieces instead of three. A loveseat and a chair. No pillows.
I know what you’re thinking. The set doesn’t look that bad. Upon closer examination you’ll see what I mean!
Instead of dumping the set (which I’m sure my husband has been secreting hoping since day one) I’m giving the pieces a makeover!
It was gorgeous outside today so I spent the better part of my morning giving the loveseat a good sanding. Since part of the chair will be covered by cushions, I spent more time smoothing out the areas that will be exposed.
As always, sanding is MESSY. Make sure you wear proper safety gear such as a dust mask, eye protection and gloves. Once I was happy with the sand job, I used a tack cloth to wipe off all the dust.
This is my first attempt at spray painting. Needless to say, I didn’t buy enough spray primer. One can doesn’t even cover the loveseat. So much for it being “Ultra 2x the coverage”. Won’t be making that beginners mistake again.
Doesn’t look like much right now. Clearly I will have to pick up some more spray primer before I can continue with this project.
I was planning to spray both pieces in “Oil Rubbed Bronze” but now I’m thinking classic white is the way to go.
